Produced from 1995-1998 the R33 GT-R just recently became legal to import to the United States and thankfully the wait for this 90s icon is over. In total there where only 16,674 R33 GT-R’s ever built making this not only an exhilarating car to drive but also a collector’s item that is sure to increase rapidly in value in the coming years as supplies in Japan dwindle.

Compared to the R32 the R33 featured considerably improved aerodynamics , Nissan put a lot of effort towards reducing front-end lift, improving weight distribution and body rigidity, and making the car’s handling friendlier at the absolute limit. HICAS returned in the form of Super-HICAS, as well as the ATESSA AWD system. The RB26DETT also saw a few revisions which added torque All of that must have helped because the R33 GT-R was over 20 seconds faster at the Nurburgring than its predecessor. Overall the R33 is just a more polished version of the R32’s track focused brutality.

The interior of the R33 is a serious step up over the previous generation. The plastics used throughout the interior hold up much better, and thanks to the design get rid of the typical bubble that’s so common with the R32s. The newer style 33 GTR seats are a great upgrade over the lesser models offering great support while being comfortable enough for a good road trip.

The driveline in this R33 GT-R is simply sublime, powered by the legendary RB26DETT which fires to life with the twist of a key and settles into strong constant idle. The transmission shifts seemlessly through all the gears and all the electrics are functioning exactly as they should. The cluster indicates 117,114km/72,771 miles however we couldn’t confirm this prior to leaving Japan. The overall clean condition would indicate this is an accurate reading but we wanted to make note of this in the description. The evolution of the R32 took all the best aspects and improved on them making one of the most Iconic sports cars ever built.
