Combining an exclusive and luxurious driving experience with a powertrain to push past regular traffic, Toyota introduced a powerful and practical sedan in the 90’s, the Aristo. In this second generation, focus was set on making one of the greats, even greater. The 1999 Toyota Aristo V300 Vertex Edition is comfortable, quick, and reliable above all else.
This updated V300 Aristo still comes from factory with the legendary 2JZ-GTE, however unlike its predecessor, it now features Toyota’s VVTi system, and while it didn’t provide a recordable horsepower gain, torque was increased and smoother delivery of power can be felt. It is paired to a 4 speed automatic transmission, putting all that power to the road smoothly through the rear wheels. Though elegant as it may be, the Aristo packs a punch. The legendarily known turbocharged 2JZ produces 276 HP and pushes this sedan along without a flinch. When most sedans in the 90’s were focused on getting a group of people to their destination, the Aristo could get the group there with time to kill.
Inside this Aristo, features are plentiful. Switches all around the driver power seats, mirrors, automatic windows, locks, and the telescoping steering wheel. Keeping the cabin warm in the cold season and cool in the summer, seats are heated and the climate control is fully digital. From the drivers position, the steering wheel includes electronic shift buttons to change gears at the push of a button, and cruise control to keep things smooth and steady on the highway.
On the outside, the Aristo is simple and elegant. Body lines are soft and feature nearly no sharp edges, helping to give the V300 one of the smoothest looking designs to come from Toyota in the 90’s. Curves are accentuated by the 062 Ivory White paint that brightens up in the sun. The Vertex Edition aero focused on complimenting the body lines with a design that didn’t stray far from OEM.
While parts can be sourced stateside from its US counterpart, there is something much more desirable to the Aristo. It’s a car that has kept up over the years, not just in speed or looks, but in reputation and reliability.
