Celebrating 40 years of continued excellence, the 1998 Nissan Skyline 40th Anniversary marked a monumental landmark for Nissan. The R33, known far and wide for its success in racing, unforgettable looks, and popularity in all forms of media, would be given a send-off that was well deserved. This Skyline proudly displays the new features exclusive to the 40th Anniversary that can be found inside and out.
Under the hood of the 40th Anniversary sits the legendary RB25DET 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-6 engine used previously in the standard GTS25T’s. Producing 247 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque, this power is sent through a 5 speed manual by a Viscous Limited Slip Differential in the rear. A reliable powerplant meant Nissan felt no major changes would be needed when making changes to the final R33’s and only looked to change the Cam Angle Sensor for a more advanced design that would be found in the later R34 models.
Outside, the Type M trim brings sportier suspension, upgraded brakes, and stylish aero enhancements, including front and rear spoilers. But exclusive to the 40th Anniversary and only GT-R’s before it, the deep metallic LP2 Midnight Purple paint is a standout feature, shimmering in different light conditions and adding a touch of sophistication to its aggressive design. A true treasure in the JDM market, records indicate this R33 is of extreme rarity, with only 178 being produced in this color.
Sitting inside, the interior has no major rips, tears, or holes in the seats, and a clean dash remains largely untouched by the previous owner. For the 40th Anniversary, unique badging and interior details highlight its collector’s status with “Skyline 40th Anniversary” badges found on the front seats that matched silver badges on the outside of the rear pillar. The Skyline’s dashboard features a sleek design and simple gauges, all crafted to enhance the driving experience by keeping the focus on the road ahead.
Remaining largely untouched by its previous owner, the modifications done remain minimal.
