The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, thoughtfully nicknamed the “Lan Evo” by Japanese enthusiasts, or simply the “Evo” by most, has long been a staple in the rally community. The Evo 5 evolved drastically both by design and power from its predecessor, the Evo 4 featuring many new attributes. Debated as one of the best in its class, the Evo is a well respected legend, even today.

Many of the updated features can be found on the exterior of the vehicle, including a new rear spoiler, flared arches, wider front and rear tracks, and larger 17 inch wheels. The wheel diameter and offset was changed to fit Brembo brakes, and was the first of the Evo’s to run these brakes from factory. These changes were so drastic that it changed size classing to meet WRC standards. To further appeal to rally enthusiasts, Mitsubishi also equipped this generation of the Evo with adjustable aero on the updated aluminum rear spoiler. A defining feature of the Evo continued on into this generation as the Evo 5 was also equipped with a vented hood and a large front mount intercooler visible through the well ventilated front bumper.

Upgrades continued in the interior as well, as Mitsubishi continued to work with Recaro through this generation. These updated Recaro’s provide excellent bolster and match the overall look of this interior, and give the feel of a larger cabin. Factory features include power folding and adjustable mirrors, power windows, digital climate control that sends cold A/C and good heat, front mount intercooler sprayer, and a MOMO Steering wheel.

At the heart of this CP9A is the legendary 4G63-T, used broadly across the Evo line with upgrades to power and torque compared to prior generations. The biggest change of this motor was from the 7 bolt to the 6 bolt crankshaft, making parts sourcing much easier, as can be agreed upon by most Evo enthusiasts. These 6 bolt designs can be upgraded much easier, and are rumored to hold more power. This Evo fires to life with a turn of the key and shifts through all 5 gears smoothly, and is a very clean platform for its next owner, whether its ventures are track or daily driver oriented.

As part of our maintenance, we have installed a brand new timing belt, balance shaft belt, crank position sensor, air filter, valve cover gasket, rear control arms, spark plugs, and a 12V battery to ensure a smooth and reliable drive for the next owner of this rally legend.

With a total production of just 7,087 GSR units and 758 RS units, the Evo 5 is one of the hardest of the 90s legends to track down in good condition. Examples like this are few and far between, and with only 70,821 verified miles, this is a great find and sure to be enjoyed by its next owner!
