With revolutionary engineering and chasing the pursuit of performance, Mazda created one of the most highly recognized JDM Legends. Running alongside the other familiar legends like Nissan’s Skyline GT-R, Toyota’s Supra RZ, and Honda’s NSX, Mazda produced the FD RX-7. Only available from factory with a 1.3L turbocharged Rotary engine, the FD leaped in performance from the early generation RX-7s produced before it. And this 1995 Mazda (Efini) RX-7, is a perfect example of an OEM masterpiece with a timeless design.
The epicenter, and likely the most famous feature of the RX-7, lies its heart, the Rotary 1.3L sequentially twin turbocharged 13B-REW engine. With a hefty redline of 8,500 RPM and easily able to produce Japan’s unofficial 276 HP limit with a few slight tweaks, the 13B not only provides plenty of power (251HP in 1995 models) but an extremely linear powerband thanks to its clever tech. Left untouched, this 1995 RX-7 engine bay remains stock and only flashes the red-ornamented OEM front strut brace.
Outside, the PZ color code Brilliant Black paint is smooth, glossy and shows a brilliant shine. Aero has been left untouched to keep that smooth rounded hatchback silhouette that the FD RX-7 is known for and is complimented only by SSR Koenig wheels. This FD perfectly captures how modest modification can sometimes speak the loudest.
Inside, the RX-7 is driver focused with analog gauges displaying all vital info that a sports car driver needs to know. Additionally, the prior owner has added an Omoni boost gauge to tell precise pressure readings and a Momo steering wheel gives a connected feel to the road ahead. A full black and dark grey interior are minimal in looks and show no major signs of scratches, tears, and no signs of stains. Power is sent through a 5 speed transmission and to the ground via an LSD, planting the new Kenda tires firmly on the road.
Overall, the RX-7 is a driver’s machine. The experience is unforgettable and hard to beat. Steering is smooth and precise and with power at the press of a pedal, the Rotary roars to life. Lightweight construction, a timeless look, and twin turbo makes this RX-7 beautiful both on the road and on the track. Those who are looking for that iconic sound, look, and history, look no further.
