This 1992 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution I GSR is one of 5,000 WRC homologation models produced. The car is equipped with Recaro front seats, Evo-specific bodywork, a driver-controlled intercooler sprayer, and a viscous limited-slip rear differential. Power comes from a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4G63T inline-four paired to a 5-speed manual transmission and an all-wheel drive system. Following Mitsubishi’s rally success with the Galant VR4 and the rear wheel drive Lancer Turbo, Mitsubishi fitted a variant of the Galant VR-4 drivetrain to the lightweight Lancer shell. The Evolution I features unique fascias and a ventilated hood not used on the standard Lancer. A large front-mount intercooler is fitted, and it is equipped with a working intercooler sprayer. The Evolution I GSR also used a viscous-type LSD rather than the mechanical unit used on later Lancer Evolutions.
The GSR was the best equipped Evolution I variant. With just 72,000 original miles this first generation Evolution is a true time capsule. If you’ve been looking to own a piece of rally car history this Evo is the car for you.
