Powered by the mighty F6A 657cc DOHC three cylinder engine, the Suzuki Cappuccino is a turbocharged 2 seater convertible Kei car. Weighing a hair under 1600lbs with 50/50 weight distribution when both seats are occupied. Deceptively spacious inside, the ergonomics show just how well this car was thought out by it’s Japanese manufacturers. It may not be my first choice for a cross country road trip but at 5 Foot 11 I fit comfortably inside with maybe 2-3 inches of clearance between my head and the roof.
Suitable for driving on US roads, at 70MPH you’re sitting at about 5000RPM with another 3500rpm in reserve. The hardtop is removable and has multiple configurations, you can have a traditional T- top, fully removed for the full targa experience, or lower the rear wrap around window to the trunk making it a standard convertible. Cleverly designed and can be configured to your preference.
Although mostly stock this Cappuccino does have a few tricks up it’s sleeve including a rare ARC intake and a pricey ARC blow off valve. Not the easiest parts to find anymore and certainly expensive to purchase when you do manage to find one.
The oem leather seats have held up well with no tears or rips, the center console does have a very small rip that isn’t very noticeable but worth pointing out. The exterior paint has no clear coat fade or large dings or scratches. The F6A engine fires up with the twist of a key and the 5 speed manual transmission shifts comfortably through all 5 gears.
This is a true 90s JDM Legend that can be purchased at a relatively low cost of ownership. If you have never driven a Cappuccino you are truly missing out, it is easily one of the most quirky, unique and fun Kei cars to ever come out of Japan.
